I’ve just spied a tasty notice on the Essex Calendar that will be taking place on Saturday morning in front of the Essex Post Office. Tasty? Yes, tasty, as in… a tasty bake sale!
If you missed the good news, here’s what you need to know:
Help us beautify Essex! A Bake Sale will be held this Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 to 11:30am in front of the Essex Post Office. Proceeds will help buy flowers for Essex and Whallonsburg barrel planters.

Baked Goods for Beautiful Blooms
It seems to me that exchanging delicious, locally baked treats for flowering plants to adorn Essex this season is a perfect swap. After all, I’m an enthusiastic gobbler of home baked goodies and a keen gardner. But there is one little hurdle that I must cross.
The Beautification Committee is doubling down on their Essex gifts: tasty treats and beautiful blooms.
I plan to swing by the Beautification Committee’s bake sale to see if I’m lucky enough to find any gluten free, dairy free sweets. I know what you’re thinking. Confections sans wheat and butter? They wouldn’t be worth eating in the first place.
A few years back I would have agreed. And, sure, I do get a little jealous from time to time, especially given the wonderful dairy and wheat options available from our local farmers. But almost 4 years without gluten or dairy has introduced me to many delicious dairy and gluten alternatives. Maybe I’ll just have to bake up something and donate it to the bake sale to help spread the word?
Thanks, Essex Initiatives
Saturday’s bake sale is sponsored by the Essex Initiatives Beautification Committee. In other words, these beautiful people are doubling down on their Essex gifts: tasty treats and beautiful blooms. Thanks, Essex Initiatives. What an amazing place to live!
